I am a junior doctor working in London, who initially had no plans of starting a fashion brand.
In the summer of 2011, I was introduced to Bless the Children International Home, an orphanage in Ghana, West Africa. At the beginning of 2012 I had the idea of making and selling bow ties so that I could donate some money to the orphanage that coming summer. At the time, I was a medical student and saw this as a hobby, a way of giving back to my parents' country.
I continued to make bow ties in my room and travelled to Ghana once a year, using the profits from sales to fund a donation to the orphanage.
In 2015, I decided to register my brand and take what I had started seriously. Friday Born Designs is now a London based yet African inspired fashion label. Using African fabrics disguised in a British silhouette, Friday Born Designs pays homage to the motherland.
The brand is bigger, but the reason for existence stays the same. Every penny of profit is taken to Ghana by myself to fund various projects that aim to enrich the lives of those whose circumstances don't allow them to reach their full potential.
